Get the most out of your CPD by focusing on your goals and taking advantage of every opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge.
Plan your CPD activities early
- Make a list – what learning development do you need to meet your professional goals? Review and update the list regularly.
- Don’t leave CPD to the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time so that you can find and complete activities that are best suited to your development needs before your registration expires.
Rules for CPD activities
- Make sure you select the right type of CPD activities to meet your requirements. Remember you must select at least 5 points of Category A CPD activities.
- As part of the minimum 10 CPD point requirement you must complete both:
- Ethical standards for migration agents (1 mandatory CPD point) and
- RMA Code of Conduct (1 mandatory CPD point).
- Make sure you are completing no more than 6 CPD points online within 24-hours.
- Make sure all private study is completed within 12 months from the date of enrolment.

Transitional provisions for legislative changes
From 1 April 2026,
Migration Agents (CPD Activities, Approval of CPD Providers and CPD Provider Standards) Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/001) changes CPD requirements for registered migration agents (RMAs).
LIN 26/001 also outlines transitional provisions where RMAs can meet previous CPD requirements if these CPD activities have been:
- completed before 1 July 2026 and
- part of an RMA’s registration lodged on or before 31 March 2027.
If your CPD points are completed and lodged within this time period, RMAs can still claim:
- 10 CPD points completed online within 24 hours
- A CPD topic on either ethical standards topic
or a Code of Conduct topic
- Private study enrolled prior to 1 July 2026 even if it is more than 12 months between enrolment and the completion date.
Stay focused during CPD activities
You will get more out of your CPD experience if you go into each activity with a clear idea of what you want to achieve. Take advantage of these opportunities by:
- identifying what you want to gain from the CPD activity
- participating in discussions
- networking with your peers
Apply what you learn
At the end of each activity reflect on your training and work out how you can apply it in practice. Ask yourself:
- What did I learn?
- What will I stop doing?
- What will I continue doing?
- What will I start doing?
- What will I do differently?
- How will I know when these changes have occurred?
- What else do I need to learn?
Review and update your CPD plan regularly.
