Consultation and engagement

OMARA engages regularly with stakeholders including consumers, registered migration agents, peak bodies, community representatives, Home Affairs portfolio agencies, other Commonwealth and State government agencies and regulators, and international immigration advice regulator counterparts.

Why our stakeholders are important?

Our stakeholders have a range of expertise, experience and differing perspectives.

We consult and engage with our stakeholders to help us:

  • understand the needs and issues faced by migration advice consumers
  • understand and receive feedback on OMARA’s regulatory performance with respect to protecting consumers
  • generate ideas on how the regulation of the migration advice industry can be improved

Current consultation

Code of Conduct for Registered Migration Agents – Third stage consultation

The Independent Review of OMARA (Kendall Review) recommended a review of the Code of Conduct for Registered Migration Agents to address concerns about the scope, content and clarity of the current Code. 

It is anticipated that a revised Code will be simpler, will remove duplication and be written in plain English making it fit for purpose to guide the professional conduct of registered migration agents.

Following extensive consultation on the Code issues paper, a document on the new Code has now been developed.  The Code document will be open for comment until 22 November 2019. Please provide your feedback by email to mara.comms@homeaffairs.gov.au
