OVERVIEW OF THE PROFESSION
The profession’s numbers during 2010–11 were 4465 registered
migration agents, which is a slight decrease from 4482 at the end
of the previous program year.
Profile of registered migration agents
- Approximately 76.5 per cent operate in a business as the only registered migration agent.
- 19.1 per cent of registered migration agents work in more than one business.
- 43.6 per cent are female and 56.4 per cent are male.
- The average age of a registered migration agent is 44.6 years.
- 1264 registered migration agents (28.3 per cent) hold, or have held, a legal practising certificate.
- 277 agents are registered as not for profit, and 53.1 per cent of these hold a legal practising certificate.
- The majority of agents (75 per cent) have never had a complaint made against them.

Application fees
Table 1 shows application fees for initial and repeat registrations in 2010–11. These fees have not changed from the previous program year.
