The Office of the MARA’s organisational structure is outlined in Figure 1.

Registration and Client Services

  • Maintains the official register of migration agents and forms, including online application forms
  • Assesses and decides applications for registration as a migration agent
  • Audits registered agents’ compliance with the Code of Conduct during the re-registration process
  • Provides information to the public through responding to telephone and email inquiries and developing information for the website

Professional Standards and Integrity

  • Addresses consumer queries and their concerns relating to registered migration agents
  • Investigates and decides actions on complaints and, where appropriate, issues warnings and sanctions
  • Monitors the conduct of registered migration agents
  • Monitors the adequacy of the migration agents Code of Conduct

Professional Development

  • Assesses and approves continuing professional development (CPD) activity applications
  • Monitors and evaluates CPD activities
  • Develops policy to promote improvements to the CPD framework and range of available activities
  • Contributes to the entry-level standards for registered migration agents

Communications and Strategy

  • Coordinates the implementation of the recommendations of the 2007–08 Review of Statutory Self-Regulation of the Migration Advice Profession
  • Provides secretariat and support services to the Office of the MARA’s executives and advisory board
  • Develops and implements the communications strategy
  • Provides advice on the Office of the MARA’s stakeholder communications and corporate style and standards

Business Services

  • Ensures responsible financial management, effective business planning and the implementation of probity arrangements
  • Develops and delivers support services to the Office of the MARA
  • Coordinates staff training programs, including security awareness and occupational health and safety
  • Analyses business performance information and coordinates key business reporting
